There was no indication that he ever married. From the "History of Dallas, PA", we learn that in 1818, John Ross was assessed with 160 acres, one horse, one cow, a single man. There is a record of his selling property to his brother James 2nd about 1818. After that he just disappeared. This, I believe, was the one my grandmother referred to as "walking off into the woods and never coming back". Cecil Ross, a cousin to my father, stated that as per his recollection, "they found a body come Spring and presumed that it was John."
