Born February 28, 1896, at Red Cloud, Nebraska, of Henry William ROSS and Katie L. (RUTT) ROSS. He had a brother named Roscoe, and sisters Laura, Lucille, and Luella. He also had half-brothers George Granville and Rawly, and half-sisters Cora and Clara.

On June 21, 1921, Daniel married Clara Elvira WOLFE, who was born in Bladen, Nebraska, on November 28, 1900. Daniel and Clara were married 50 years at the time of Daniel's death on June 17, 1972, in Billings, Montana.

The couple had at least three children: Betty, Fern, and Delmer.
